COBBLE HILL

Cobble Hill located in the south-east part of Downtown Brooklyn, between Brooklyn Heights and Carroll Gardens. Part of the “BoCoCa” meta-neighborhood (BOerum Hill / CObble Hill / CArroll Gardens), Cobble Hill offers a combination of classic architecture and modern amenities that make it one of Brooklyn’s most desirable places to live.

Cobble Hill borders Brooklyn Heights to the north (at Atlantic Avenue), Boerum Hill to the east (at Smith and Court Streets), and Carroll Gardens to the south (Douglass Street). Cobble Hill’s waterfront extends for about seven blocks along Columbia Street.

Cobble Hill shares several aspects with Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn Heights, and Boerum Hill - excellent location for Manhattan commuters, variety of shopping and dining venues, and treasured architecture. The neighborhood’s architecture is classic Brownstone Brooklyn, with a few surprises. Cobble Hill features three- and four-story Italianate and Romanesque brownstones in a variety of color schemes, as well as Greek Revival homes surrounding Cobble Hill Park. Cobble Hill - Brownstone

Like neighboring Carroll Gardens, the townhouses here are of great quality, having been built to the highest standards of their era. Unlike Carroll Gardens, there are some variations on the brownstone theme, including different heights, alternative decorations, and duplexed multi-family buildings. New construction condos also appear in several places.

Atlantic Avenue, the neighborhood’s northern boundary, is home to dozens of shops and restaurants, including the giant Atlantic Terminal Mall with powerhouses like Target, Daffy’s, Men’s Wearhouse, and several other anchor stores. On the eastern side, Smith and Court Streets offer a lineup of restaurants, bars, and specialty food stores that rivals Manhattan’s best neighborhoods. Cobble Hill - outdoor restaurant

In the early 1990's, a few trendy restaurants opened on Smith and Court Streets, starting a commercial boom that continues to this day. With the influx of Manhattan expatriates and well-heeled out-of-state newcomers, BoCoCa's main thoroughfares have been transformed into a scintillating array of restaurants, bars, clubs, and specialty shops. The Smith / Court Street area has been described as “the heart of Downtown rebirth” and “Brooklyn's own Upper East Side”, and Atlantic Avenue has become a major shopping destination, with over 50 new businesses opening alongside established antique shops, galleries, and specialty stores.

BoCoCa is a gourmet's paradise. Dozens of restaurants and bars fill the landscape of Smith Street, Court Street, and Atlantic Avenue, offering an amazing variety of world cuisines to Cobble Hill residents. Whether you’re in the mood for Italian (Café Carciofo), fine French dining (Café LULU and Quercy), piquant Thai food (Joya and Thai Sesame), tasty Jamaican (Brawta Café), or inspired American Nouveau entrees (The Grocery), there’s something for everyone’s taste in Cobble Hill.

Besides great food, BoCoCa is the center of Downtown nightlife. The bar and club selection is as eclectic as the gourmet offerings - from the 12,000-square-foot luxury-sports-bar ambience of 40/40 Club, to the classic Brooklyn bar atmosphere of P.J. Hanley’s, complete with century-old decorations, polished brass, and framed sepia prints. Other notables include the high-energy Last Exit, country-n-western cool Hank’s Saloon (with karaoke, live music shows, and BBQ), and down-home goodness of Angry Wade’s, with a fireplace and billiards tables. Whatever the mood and the occasion, an ideal evening out is only a few blocks away.

Cobble Hill is conveniently close to Manhattan, with the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Manhattan Bridge within easy reach. In addition, the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and other major thoroughfares (Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues, Eastern Parkway), provide a direct link to other parts of Brooklyn. The largest public transportation hub in Brooklyn is also right nearby. The Atlantic Avenue - Pacific Street complex brings together 14 subway lines (the 2, 3, 4, 5, A, B, C, D, F, G, M, N, Q, and R trains), a dozen bus lines, and the Long Island Rail Road.

For outdoor recreation, Cobble Hill residents have their choice of the newly-renovated Cadman Plaza Park, the Palmetto Playground, Van Voorhees Park, and Columbus Park. A few minutes away, the majestic 585-acre Prospect Park / Grand Army Plaza complete offers a complete lineup of activities. In addition, a large portion of the waterfront around the bridges is being redeveloped as a park complex. Crown Heights - Grand Army Plaza
